Hi. If you prefer to listen, I recently spoke about myself here.
I write a biweekly Substack newsletter - the SneakyArt Post. It is a good way to stay updated with everything I’m doing. And also a good way to get in touch!
I grew up in Kolkata (India) and studied to be an engineer like many students of my generation. At the Manipal Institute of Technology (India), I worked on race-cars while getting a BTech in Mechanical Engineering. At the TU Delft (Netherlands), I got a Master’s degree in Biomechanical Design. My thesis project was about human reflexes and how we balance movement across different limbs. Then I began a PhD in Neuroscience, researching movement deficiencies in chronic stroke patients.
This whole time, all I wanted to be (really) was a writer. I wanted to write stories. So I did it in my spare time. I wrote hundreds of short stories and poems during my undergrad degree. I started writing for a YouTube show, and then a TV show on Indian television, during my Master’s degree. I made short films with friends, ran a semi-successful webcomic, tried stand-up comedy, and did everything I could in the evenings after my assignments and projects as a full-time student.
One evening, after running experiments all day at the Northwestern University in Chicago, I attended an open mic comedy night. And everything changed. Looking up at ordinary people trying to become successful comics, I challenged myself to pursue my creative dreams. I quit my PhD the next day and started work. I made this commitment to myself - that I would chase my curiosity wherever it took me. That is how I started writing my novel, and that is also how I stopped. That is how I decided to go for a walk with a sketchbook and fountain pen. That is how I learned to draw. And how I took my first steps as an artist.
I resumed writing when I was frustrated by the shallow engagement of social media apps. I started the SneakyArt Podcast when the pandemic cut me off from peers whose work taught me so much. Everyday I still follow the same rule that got me started - curiosity, and giving myself the permission to pursue it.
I lived in Chicago, then Eau Claire (Wisconsin), then Chicago again, and now I am in beautiful Vancouver (Canada). As of this February, I also have a full-time job as a father!
Get in touch to ask about my work, to commission art for your home, or for any other collaborations. I would love to hear from you!
